Kinesthesia was planted as a seed when I made the documentary Inside the Dance. Back then I wanted the audience to experience movement via the screen in their bodies as if they were themselves dancing. I wanted the moving image to transmit what it feels like from inside rather than what it looks like from outside.
The seed grew into a seedling when I met Dominique Rivoal. We both shared the same enthusiasm for somatic engagement with the screen and embodied filmmaking. As we started working on our durational art project in the Hackney marshes, we started dreaming about Kinesthesia. This dream became reality when Independent Dance joined us to make this happen and with the support of Middlesex University.
The seedling fully bloomed in the summer of 2021. You can find out more on Kinesthesia website.
